our journey from Sydney through the
outback to the coast of South Australia
Artist Statement
The collection of images and art pieces take you on a visual, tactile and experiential journey of leaving Sydney, making my way across regional and outback New South Wales, to central and regional South Australia over the last three months. In this collection, I grapple with the acceptance of impermanence and the paradox of nature, where grief and beauty are intertwined. It is an exploration of our place within these cycles, the healing found in connecting with the land, and a reflection of what I have come to feel deeply throughout this journey. In this experience, I was able to dissolve the barriers between observer and landscape, truly feeling one with the earth.

STOP #1 | MARCH 2026
I left Sydney on the 25th of March 2026 with a vague plan and no end date. The goal was to reach SA in a week for a natural building workshop, but from there the rest was unclear. I had the sole intention to listen to my intuition and deepen my connection to the land, others and myself and see what emerges.
And so the journey began... From Simba (my car) breaking down in the pouring rain on day two in Narrandera, to spending 4 days in Wagga Wagga waiting to hear from the mechanic while Simba was in Griffith, visiting the observatory and seeing the galaxy, to experiencing the most incredible 360˚ completely flat sunsets in the Hay Plains, it’s fair to say week one was a roller coaster of emotions.

Next stop, Mungo National Park! I was only here for a few days, but it was absolutely spectacular.
Driving past the “Wecome to the Outback” sign was just the start. The roads were so flat and straight for so long, but then eventually the red dirt and green bush appeared, it felt other worldly. Being guided through the Lunettes, by a First Nations ranger made it all the more special. The natural formations are made of clay and sand layers (just like the earthen plaster we create with) that are moulded by the wind and rain. The site’s history dates back beyond the Ice Age!!

I spent much of my time in this part of South Australia, taking part in a superadobe workshop and then petsitting a cat and then a dog. I thought it would be best to travel slowly, to really understand place and have time to process my thoughts and learnings.
It was wonderful to be surrounded by a powerful sea and lush bush, and to connect with so many lovely people. I spent most days by the beach watching the sunsetting and the water glistening fully in the moment, which I barely even took photos of!
It was during this time that I felt a whole spectrum of emotions. I observed how the waves would constantly change the formation of the sand and the wind eroding the cliffs. I felt the internal waves each day bringing something new. Something to feel and work through and then release. It was here where I realised the freedom of letting go, of things, memories, thoughts, patterns and so much more that seemed to no longer need to take up space. It was here where I shed the layers that needed to be washed away to bring about new life. And somehow despite all of that I felt free. I felt so much love, appreciation and gratitude for all the versions of me that got me here.

Finally Beachport, the place that was not on my list at all... The plan was to head north towards Coober Pedy but that’s part of lifes wonderful surprises! It was a happy accident, because I ended up in a town I had never ever heard of, but one that I ended up being deeply connected to myself in.
The Limestone Coast is absolutely stunning, but what makes it are the people, the community. During this time, I challenged myself to remove my distractions, enter a cocoon, to make space for an unfolding of self, reflection and creativity. It was hard, it’s quite easy to stay distracted, to create noise and remain numb. But I am glad I sat with the discomfort, because in the silence came the creativity. I was able to process a lot and work through it, by creating with the earth. I finally had so much time to create, to be still, to move, to nourish myself, to be curious and to be grateful! So I guess we will see what else will be revealed on my path.
